In my professional career, I have come across some great methodologies for client success, product management, strategy & leadership development., but none have been as inspirational, as rewarding and more enjoyable to facilitate than the Imagine workshop.
Most of us get stuck in a rut, where today becomes the norm, and ideas are handicapped to what we’ve already experienced. The challenge is how do we overcome this?
I was introduced to “Imagine” during an Epsilon International senior management meeting from my friend and then colleague Phil Cottier (now CEO at The CX Collection) when we were really struggling to come up with great ideas to impress our client Domino’s Pizza during contract renewal time.
Instead of having the client manager do this on their own, in this exercise we had 12 brains contributing to the brainstorming, and together we came up with some truly awesome and unique ideas that really pushed technical boundaries in ways we would never have thought possible and allowed us to successfully impress and re-sign Domino’s for another contract term.
I quickly made Imagine a regular part of my Asia Pacific teams routine so that we could brainstorm as many clients or sales opportunities as we could. As it turns out, 12 brains is good… 100+ brains is exponentially phenomenal. My regular sessions would invite quite literally everyone in my APAC team from the most junior to the most senior.
The goal of Imagine If workshops is to breakdown all creative barriers and embraced the unique experience of the 100+ participating brains. Quite literally I would insist that everyone forget what they know can be done, because that’s already done, and go into daydream mode, imagining how great an offering or product would be if only something they are imagining was possible.
For example: “Imagine if Dominos knew when I was hungry!” your first impression is this can’t be done, and technically it may not literally be possible, but what if we leverage past purchase behaviour to trend the likelihood that you are ready to buy, providing us a solution very close to the truth!
No idea was a bad idea. The more out there the better. In an Imagine If workshop I capture all ideas and then working with a smaller team take the coolest, most innovative on the list to hand to our innovations team go wild thinking about how they could make them real. You’d be amazed what we came up with, which we then leveraged for client growth and to impress on new sales pitches.
If you have a client you want to win or develop further, then let’s run an Imagine If workshop. It’s typically about 1-3 days of my time to facilitate depending on how far you want me to work with you through the process. This would include me understanding the need, facilitating the workshop (roughly only an hour for the actual all hands call/gathering) working with the responsible team in your organisation to filter and massage the results and potentially working with your technical team to manage the ideas into solution concepts that can be presented to the client.
At the end of the workshop, you will have an excited and re-energised client success or sales manager and you will have a beautiful list of innovative ideas and potential solutions that you can take to your client to truly inspire and win them over.
Let’s talk now and explore how an Imagine if workshop will grow yours and your clients business with fresh and innovative ideas.
